Explanation of the First Degree

Freemasons are part of an ancient tradition that includes rituals and symbols particular to each degree and it is the Initiation Ceremony that first teaches us lessons of honor, morality, and virtue.

During their Initiation a candidate will be asked over eighteen questions; he only answers two, himself. All the other answers are given to him by the Junior Deacon.

So why do we ask so many questions that an Initiate will not know the answers to?

The “Explanation of the First Degree” will give the opportunity to newly initiated Entered Apprentice Freemasons to go through their Initiation again, this time observing it from a different perspective and obtaining the answers to all of the queries that they might have regarding their Initiation.
